BOLD DESIGNS AND COLOUR SCHEMES.
Although the most extreme exhibit at the New York auto show, the Auburn speedster shown here isn't alone is the Innovation of more colour in body and fender and individuality of lines. Thie speedster can be had for $2495 at the factory. Below at left is a view of the Willys-Knight front, with its now tendency toward simplicity of line-radiator, fenders and lights conforming into

Colour has been extended to the fenders. In many cases, with the. abandonment of the austere and
conventional black s almost alto gother. This is especially so la case of the coupes and roadstors, although a few of the larger closed modols, also show tendencies to break away from the conventional.
Some cars, such as Willys- Knight and Dodge Six, have adopt 'ed 'entirely now body lines. The former has dropped Ite, wadi- markod curves in front, moro generally, The Dodge has become more "Chryslerized," in: doferonca to its now owner, in the way of adopting a thin profile radiator sholl, curved cross-rods and other effects that mark Chrysler" pro- ducter.
Moro of the 1929 automobiles have adopted vortical radiator shutters, sweeping front fenders, individual tower designs and more graceful horizontal lines along houldings, windows and other parts of the body that will give the entire zar a speedier and more attractive appearance.
Fenders Get Small Lights,
One of the innovations that add to the style of the automobilo is the adoption of parking lights, on the front fonders. Some of these come out of the fenders like graco- ful-subway kiosks, while others aro set on small posis on the tops of the fenders.
The inside of the cars at tho alow are just as Impressive, from the standpoint of beauty and com- fort, as the outside. The up- holstery has been improved in texture and appearance, and every little convenience the dealgnors could think of has been included In some of the models.
So for as the performance of the modern automobile is concerned,
little further is to be desired. The matiufacturers have succeeded in
giving the motorists more power- ful motors, with higher comipros- alon and improved construction, at the cost of last year's cars. In fact, some of the cars have been reduced, in price.
Economy this year is the last consideration. The mistress. of the household, being considered
first in the design and construe- struction of the 1929 automoblic, has left that phase of motoring to the man who pays the bills. And the man, as the new models seem to prove, doesn't seem to care.
