R.A. WIN SHIELD RE-PLAY.

POOR EXHIBITION BY THE SOMERSETS.

}

TAYLOR ON THE ALERT.

[DY "WANDERER"]

The Royal Artillery qualified for the semi-final of the Shield. Com petition yesterday by defeating the Somerset L. I. by three goals to nil in the re-play. It was a most uninspiring game, exceedingly scrappy and excessively rough, though there was never a doubt after the first twenty minutes us to the eventual winners,

The Somersets never shaped like winnora. Their defonders were unreliable and lax in their tackling, while the forward line, which is capable of good combination, never: settled down.

In a match full of faulty tactics by both sides, the most obvious mis- take was the policy of the Somer- sets in keeping the ball in the air against a team which had every advantage in height. The R.A. half-backs controlled the game from start to finish and their headwork played no small part in their suc- cessful checking of the opposition.

Forward, the R.A. were reason- ably well served. Leach was in- clined to be lazy, but both Taylor and Bridgeman were swift to take advantage of openings, while Jobe did exceedingly well on the wing.
