T. F. Aikenhead, Comman der J. B. Newill and Mr. George Duncan.

Proposing "Our Honorary. Vice President," Mr. L. J. Blackburn, Vice-President, said.-Mr. Southorn, Gentlemen-I am this evening ad- dressing the gathering on behalf of our worthy President who I am sorry to say has been ordered to remain in bed by his doctor. Mr. Stokes forgets that he is no longer a young man and goes about anything he puts his hand to with a vim and thoroughness that is the envy of us all.

If a comparative youngster, na I must be to him, might venture on a word of advice it is "to go slow and conserve his energy." His work for the Institution as Hon. Librarian and in other spheres connected with our wel faro are well known to all members but as his motto appears to be "If you want a thing done well do It yourself." I do not think my words of advice will be inken ́amies as

Mr. Southorn referred to a cor- tain Ceylon villager who on boar presented with a reward by Colombo talpans for an act of valour, said: "I feel like a snipe among elephants," Mr. Southern said those were his feelinga, as speaking to an audience of en- gineers and shipbuilders wa matter of some considerable dim- culty. Also Mr. Colin Mendham who was elected on the 10th March, 1892: Both are with us to-night and both are still in harness directing one of our prominent firms of En- Works gineers and Shipbuilders. That fact alone, gentlemen, is an in- dication of the virility of our pro- fession.

Since our last re-union we have lost Mr. A. Henderson of the Tramways and Mr. Walter Hill of the Taikoo Sugar Refinery, both of whom left us in the best of health and spirits. I regret, to say that we are shortly to lose Mr. S. Baker, a member of 32 years standing-- during 11 of which ho did yeoman bervice as Hon. Secretary and President further served us during 1923/4.
