KOWLOON BOWLS
CLUB.
INTERESTING DISCUSSION AT ANNUAL MEETING.
APPEAL TO MEMBERS.
..
An appeal to older members to play with the younger members, both in lawn bowls and tennis ne tivities, was made at the annual general meeting of the Kowloon Bowling Green Club, which was held at the club house yesterday evening under the chairmanship of Mr. B. Wylio.
Tho Chairman, proposing the adoption of the report and accounts, said: Gentlemen,The. Report and Balance Sheet having been in your hands for some time, I fool that, it unnecessary for me to go over the ground again, particularly SO
in view
of the fact that our year's activition were more or less reviewed by me on our "Closing Day" on 16th Decembor. note that wo bavg a loss

devoted to the improvement and renowal of our playing, greens-a source of expenditure which was in-
evitable and
will bear its fruit in good season by giving to players the facilities for which this lub primarily exists. Although it does not come within the year under review, you will have noticed' that your Committeeẻ has re-laid the boar groen, and thus we hope that by the end of the sınamer this Club will again have two first-class bowling greens.

While on the matter of finance, I ought to assure mombers that before the Balance Sheet was prepared a caratul scrutiny was given to all outstanding accounts, and that only those
which we considered necounts as recoverable were included. Follow- ing the recommendations of last year's
Committon, redeemed.81 Debentures during the year under review. We were able to do this by reason of having a credit bainnct in the Bank of approximately 73,000, and the redemption of these Debentures has resulted in a net saving of something like $180 by way of Interest. Members will have noted that our Auditors draw attention to the fact that no provision has been made for depreciation of tho Club- house, or reduction of the preliminary expenzes, but 1 think members will
hardly need any assurance from me that in view of the fact that this is a new Clubhouse, fully insured and with. a long lease of life before it, tho question of depreciation scarcely arises at this stage. It is obvious to anyone who has made a careful analysis of the Balance Sheet that when the Club has met the non- recurrent expenditure entailed by the renewal of greens, it will be in a good nat only to wipe off ita
Bining debenturas but also to
mako annual provision, for depreciation of the Club premises,

During the year, suggestions" hava been made that we ought to accure more reventa for the Club by raising our entrance fees and subscriptions, and although this matter might well engage the attention of the incoming Committee, my personal view is that with the disappearance of our present extraordinary expenditure on greens this step will not be necessary;
The Late Mr. D.`Harvey.
I do not propose to take up your time with a review of the bowls and tennis activities of the Club during the year, because this has already been done both in the Report and on Day." But, 'I have one duty-and a nad one-and that is to record the deaths of seven of our members since we last met in annual moeting, I refer to Mossrs. J, W. Faulkener, T. H. Gosden, J. W. Mat- thews, D. G. Jones and W. G. Ger- rard, and since the Report was is- sued, Capt. F. J. Connolly and Mr. David Harvey. Wo are still all shocked by the great lose which this Club has suffered by the death of Mr. Harvey. He was, You all know, a very old member of this Club, and one who by reason of his devoted services was some years ago made a Life Member. Not only had he occupied the Presidential chair, but for the last quarter of a century had served almost without a break on the General Committee. Right up to the very end, all his spare time was given to the service of this Club. Nothing was too much trouble for him, and for the past two years both (Continued on Page 3.)
