THE GRAND NATIONAL

MEETING.

[By "Ringtail."] Ace of Spades, My Lady, San

Francisco, James Movanagher, Craigavad, Target, Pigg, Solilaric, Caviare, Blotting Paper, Fanling Stag, Duke of Neiblung, Dumbell, As You Like It and May are some of the first-class per formers entered for the meeting of the Fanling Hunt which is to take place next Sunday, the 24th inst.

As was generally expected, the University established themselves. on Saturday as runners-up of the Senior Division. They have shown very consistent form all through the season with, however, one prominent exception when they lost rather ausationally to the Chinese, and the second place which they have won for them selves is a correct reflection of their strength:

A. T. Loc, asentially a bowler, played a conspicuous part in their victory over the Royal Artillery, After returning an analysis of 4 for 26, he made top score (45) for his side. Lee has the making of a really good bit but has hardly ever come off. And it might be just as well, too, if knocking up bly scores is going to adversely affect his bowling as is so often the case with local cricketers. The University has enough sound batsmen to cope with the best League bowling and must retain at least a couple of bowlers of a little above the average standard.

Sunday's races should be most On the R., side, It. The University,

Such of emulation. keences, if it were more in evidence, would help considerably towards a smoother running of the competition and also take away a great deal of that stale- ness which is so apparent when things are dragged along until April. We have too many "strag- gler teams" than is good for the League,

In the Second Division, the Royal Army Ordnance Corps are making up for lost ground. They neverely trounced the Electric R.C., making this their second victory in nine matches and after having lost seven- in succession. If they keep up their present form I expect them to win their re- maining three games and so finish up nearer the middle of the table. Their first three batsmen knock- ed the sting of the bowling of the ER.C. and then Sgt. Anderson the visiting wrought havoc on alde. There was also a strong contrast in the fielding of the two elevens, the soldiers showing up to much better advantage. The Extras against the Electric R.C. were unusually heavy (43 out of a total score of 171). If Akehurst was behind the sticks it must have been one of his rare Molf" days.

The principal event on the card is the Fanling Grand National over a distance of 2 miles and should be won by either My Lady or Ace of Spades, who are con- sidered two of the crack steeple chase ponies at our country meet- Up to the present, these inga. too chat or whet been opposed to each other, which makes it very diffeult to decide as to which is

There are quite a number of new pones who will be making their initial appearance before Fanling racappers, but as I have not seen any of these ponies at work I am afraid I have no information to offer regarding their chances at the meeting over the week-end. The entries and handicaps are:

No Reflection on Author.

When the defendant company was formed-and he (the Judge) was not casting any reflection upon Mr. Wallace-the public were asked to put their money on Mr. Edgar Wallace on the films. It was desired that he should be fully represented by engaging a distinguished producer of "super films," Mr. Olcott, and it was said in the prospectus that he was to direct personally at least two super films.

It seemed to him (the Judge), The best breaks were Mr. C. F. Vas (45) and Mr. E.L. Barros that "The Ringer" was incapable of treatment as a "super fim," (40). Scores:
