The speed and rush in the manufacture of automobiles render. it no longer possible to put each individual car through a trial'run of hundreds and thousands of kilometers. It is therefore un- avoidable that new ears come on the market without having been previously tried and that the buyer has to carry out this important task himself. In cases where trial runs are, notwithstanding, carried out before sale, they cost too much time and money if earried out on the open road.
In order to remove this de- ficiency, felt by the automobilo maunfacturers of all countries, the Iden of the "rolling rond" waa adopted. It was shown in action for the frat time during the recent visit of the German press in Bochum, Westfalin, and aroused the greatest interest.
The rolling road is of remark- able simple construction. Fun- damentally it. consisia of only two drums, on which the rear wheels of the car to be tested run. The revolving rear wheels rotate the drums, while the car is no anchor. ed that its rear wheels cannot leave the drums.
