But if you run a cold engine, some of this vapour will condense, et into the crankcase if the pls on sont is. broken which very often is the case, and mix with the oll. The repeated starting and stopping from cald, provide just the conditions, suitable, for, this, and la commonly found in Fire De-I partments, where they run their chgines several times a day for short periode.
Now fresh wator, and mineral olls will mix when they are churn- ed up together, called, au quuision, but will very quickly separate out, if allowed to rest. In a motor car, however, it doesn't get much time to rest and separate.
The oil, however, being \can-j antly churned up in contact with heated air, will tend to oxidise And if there is present some other foreign matter, such as dust, car- bon, or worn metal, sludge is the result..
If you place mineral, oil and wa- ter in a clear, clean bottle, mix, it up. and allow it to atand, it will separate very quickly-showing clearly oil and water.

In the other case, you will also Ret soparation, but in between the water and oil, there will bo sludge. The separated oil is usually quite good and can be used again, but not so the sludge-that must bet thrown away. And in an engine where there has been an accumu- lation of sludge, it must be thoroughly cleaned-if any sludge is left, it will contaminate the new all.
If the suggestions, to prevent dilution are followed, you need not expect trouble from water accu- mulation.
