DUMPKIN yellow emerges from all the tan

cutour for

spring. Therefore it is quite appropriate that the charming spectator sports frock shown at the left centre should be that colour.

This is in fullle silk, and has youthful dash combined with a grown-up formality, It is a one-piece mollel, with a pleated skirt joined slightly below waistline, tying in front to fashion a tight hipline that is all-import ant just now.

The seart collar dips to a becoming V in front and swings free to make twe straight panels hanging loose in the back, reaching to full skirt length.

The sleeves are straight and long, with somewhat loose cuffs. Cut and fabric make this dress. for un trimming whatever ap- pears, in this spring of much adornment.

Topping the frock is a yellow felt hat with an irregular. brim that flares on the aldes, rolls in the back and in cut short in the front, where a gros-grain ribbon band makes an intricate bow.

YOU would look far to find a smarter tweed

suit than the soft little one shown t the top of the page. It is pro-eminently, modern and becoming.

It is deep tan with a fleek of brown and a fleck of red in it and a suggestion of grem, The skirt has the new, very deep box plenta, stitched to hip-length and then pressed flut to the boltam, The cout is beutifully tailored with triangular-shaped pockets and a little back yoke that shapes, to a V.

Its knitted angora sweater jumper is in the safest beige, with a modernistic em- broidered motif in the brown, red, and green: As is the case this spring, this sweater rejects the all-over pattern, being quite simple and plain save for Ks individual motif of embroidery.

The hat is a marrow brown felt, one of the new type called "on-and-off-the-eurs"-- meaning that one side flares up and the other down. His extremely smart for a woman with regular features.

Since nothing brings a note of spring so easily as straw hats, most women are more interested in them than in frocks, when first considering the new wardrobe.

The rose belge chinese bangkok shown at the top centre illustrates some of the new chapeau points,

Its brim is quite deep on one side, while the other is slashed, with an extra roll of the mangkok turning back in novel manner,. not quite a pleat, not quite a roll. A par ticularly pleasing model.

Above this a saucy little Lady Amherst bird perches, its browns, pinks, and deep red, gay and colourful against the soft buck- ground. A single strand of brown grosgrain ribbon bands the crown about an inch and a half from where it joins the brim. The back line is quite long covering the neck.

ACE is eminently correct for both after- \LA

noon and evening, in the new mode... For an afternoon ten, bridge or reception, nothing is lovelier than the lace frock which is so smart in its own fabric that is asks no nid from trimmings to make it a thing of beauty,

Such a dress is a beige cire luce, fashion- od over beige satin, shown at the upper left. It is distinguished for its very full skirt that dips four ways set below a fitted yoke of irregular line that is marked by, sable trim- ming.

The rounded neek is charmingly simple and the long sleeves quite plain, save for the little baud of fur around the wrists. There is a taildred belt, wider than winter helts have been, fastened with a very simple little gold buckle.

Topping this frock is one of the new, large-brimmed ballibunt! hits, golden in colour, with green and old blue worked through the straw to give life to the picture. Green and old blue velvet ribbons join brown in making an unusually decorative banding, -with the ends of the velvet fashioning n ·

cockade on one side.

Dyed fur is one new spring note that the smart woman will watch. Spring furs, more- over, are the softest, lightest ones. Fax is dyed bola de rose to collar the French cont of the same shade of smooth Lido cloth, Illustrated at the lower left. The fox edges a collar, rather than muking too heavy a collar itself for spring days.

This coat flares, in the new spring manner and though it appears almost straightline, has ample fullness to close when Milady its.

The hat for this coat is a sweet little suede beret, grown very formal indeed with a feathered adornment that might become a bird, if birda were allowed these days. All the shades of green, .ose and brown that tond in with bois do rose gleam in the feathers of this little fancy,

EVENING fabrics have increased their

numbers, Fresh crisp materials are tremendously popular now for formal thinga. They lend themselves so nicely to the busque theme, the godet and bustle effects and they heighten the formality of an evening gown.

Pervenche blue moire fashions the even- ing gown at the upper right. This costume is extremely important from the point of view of new style. Its straight side panels, Its decolletage and, above all, Its shaped „gddets are new and smart, Ít le very long, as are the new evenings clothes, and even the front has more length than formerly.

This gown, with a flaring, circular godets that give extreme width to the lower edge of the skirt, still Is built around the alender, princess iden. It admits curves, but it does not accentuate then. All the fullnes however, comen below the hipline,

new and important feature,
