Nothing further was heard of the incident until February 11, when two of the women were on their way to the Yaumati Police Station, when they saw the first defendant in Shanghai Street. On seeing the women, the man shielded his face with his hat and went up the staircase of one of the houses.
One of the women stood guard in the street while the other went for her husband, who on his ap pearance placed both women at the bottom of the stairs while he himself went to fetch a police- mun. Before he had gone far he heard the women shouting and on looking round saw the first defen- dant walking towards him.
