points of fashion, nad a wise one for every woman to fol low until French couturiers have actually made up theit, minds about certain important issues for spring.

It is, in fact, a wise woman who keeps to sport clothes and simple lines for her midseason buying, and thus maintains strici neutrality on all debatable policies.

For the straight-line qutbl of inday is not stiff, nor has it any of the monotony of the old tube castime. Instead it has a full. easy skirt, a jumper, and usually a straight-line coût, long ot short. In a class by itself, it confeams to the prevailing niode only in its smart touches, its length of skirt, and its general feeling.

Paris has done mavelous things with the blouse and skirt iden, and made a most all-around type of costume from it... an outfit that may be worn any time of the day wall six o'clock

in the evening with propriety.,

The straight-line costume does not call for youth, but it dons de mand a youthful figure to achieve its best expression. For the mature figure, a circular cut thai allows more grace. and freedom is infinitely preferable.

PREMET has sounded a very practical note in his spots ensemble shown in the center of This consists of a

Another nosemble that looks forward eagerly to the spring is the Lelong sport ensemble di the upper right. This is of grevn

and white woulen material, and has a long coal in plain green. Here much attention has been given to becontingness, and th line is one that is adaptable to almost any figure.

Pleats give movement and comfort to the skit, and á scari may be adjusted to the throat in

́any one of a dozen ways. A tiny green suede

·belt outlines the fairly low waistline. The green hat exactly matches the coat, and has a band of velvet about the perfectly fitting crown.

PATOU uses Rodier fabric most effectively in his sport frock

with the cardigan sweater jacket, shown at the upper left. The skit is developed in a wide plaid in shades of brown and tan, and the jersey and the cardigan are in a knitted beige wool. Points of the plaid adorn the jumper, giving it a slightly modernistic feeling, and a row of buttons adds chic. scarf is of silk, matching the beige in the cardigan, with large blocks of plain brown silk, embroidered-in tan.

The

Paris is fond of wool, and uses it to excellent advantage. It comes today in such light weight quality and is so soft in texture that many women consider it much smarter for sport wear than silk. Certainly, wool will be more popular this spring and summer than ever before...

Jenny, always original and always to be depended upon, has developed the very smart outfit in cilk tricot shown at the bottom of the page. This costume is in harmonizing shades of brown grading from a creamy beige to dark brown. The skirt shows an interesting combination of large and fine pleats, the large ones being placed directly in front.

The pull-on blouse is simple as to line, int intricately em

broidery is done in beige, rust red and maroon, as is The silk scarf with its ding- oual stripes.

IN selecting a mid-season outfit for evening, it is well to be original, for the popular modes of the season have usually been so over- done that the wise woman tries to create a somewhat different picture. For such requirements Chantal's very odd evening gown at the lower right is just the thing. The slip is made of gray geor gette on which are placed 'deep volants of gray and old red muire.

The blouse is cut with a bolero top and is formed of a wide fold of the moire. The wrap is most glamorous-of red moite lined with gray velvet and banded with gray fox.

The newest of French footwear shows a restraint as to line and cut but originally in combination of materiais. A typica! afternoon pump is of brown satin combined with brown kid, and ever so delicately outlined with gold kid..)

For street wear, the same designer makes the stunning oxford shown above left. These are of brown boa, banded with brown kid and trimmed with tiny circles of the snakeskin.

The oxford bids fair to be very popular this spring, though apparently, nothing can challenge the position of the one-strap pump.

-"Modernistic" is an apt adjective to use in describing the spring sports mode. In it, effect is never sacrificed to pretti- ness. It's a far cry from the lace edgings and rufflings and shirrings of not so long ago to the geometric, often almost bizarre effects achieved by line and angle of inset and con. trasting material "Frilly" raiment will be out of the sports picture in the midseason styles.
