The trial of the accused took place before Mr. M. S. Collis, Dis. trict Magistrate. Mr. McDonnell and Mr. Clark prosecuted and Mr. de Glanville and Mr. Patker de- fended.
At the resumed hearing Mr. da Glanville refuted the suggestion which, he said, was made by Mr. McDonnell at the opening of the trial, that Mr. Beng Chong had been eaught in the act of burning certain papers.
Solicitor's Denial.
The charge against Gutierrez was that he aided and abetted in the uttering of the above-mentioned document.
It will be recalled that in con- nexion with the alleged forged scrip, two Chinese, Chan Fuk and Poon Pui, were brought before Major C. Willson on January 21, being charged with possession and uttering.
The following day, Gutierrez was brought up on a charge of ald ing and abetting, and since then the three men had been remanded from time to time.
