NE of the outstanding phases of the winter mode,
ONE of
cocktail jarket seems to have had on all kinds of attire.
Whether for wear with or without fur coats, 'the jacket idea pervades the realm of dressy daytime things. .. Starting with a preference for the ensemble, the introduction of the little cocktail jacket made adamant The smart woman's ambition to have some kind of a little "Lopping" for every froek,
All this means, of course, that before much longer the separate jacket and skirt suit will be The thing for daytime wear.
Another development that is noticeable just now is hat trends, We really can't blame the cocktail jarket altogether breaitse the large hat of summer, predicted as winter favourite, has become slenderized into a turban, cloche, skull tap or #omo other type of swathed headgear, or a faucy hal with just a little brim cleverly manipulated.
The almost brimless chapeau is the smart one just DOW. Some women demand a brim to shade the eyes, There are dozens of different versions to satisfy vary- Ing whims.
The winter mode is more formal, richer and more lavishly trimmed than before. Furs touch up frocks, bats' and ensembles. Rich lace nlds its Louch. And there is a premium.on scintillating things after nix pn.
WITH colder days, what to wear under fur conts is *f the problem. Here, we see the difference from last year's style and we also see exemplified the jacket Influence.
There is a decided trend towards little frocks that incorporate the jacket theme or toward the tailleur. which illustrates it. And we see more concentrated interest in what happens" to a costume from the waistling up. Chances are it will, suggest, if not actually be, a jacket theme, if it is a daytime frock br ensemble.
One of the cleverest frocks for under-the-for-coat-
wear is the two-piece one at the upper left. It has 24 slip-on jumper made faring to simulate a jacket and is fashioned of black kasha cloth, very finé and very soft so that it falls gracefully where fullness lies.
Its chief claims to distinction, aside from its unique ent, are sleeves of fur and a collar that looks like a for throw. These are made of black galyack fur- that soft, pliable for with swirling lights in it, and as svelt and smart as can be.
Fur sleeves are an oddity that promise greater popularity once their beauty is seen. These sleeves are smartly cut, with sited uppera and a cuff that Bares a little. They are set in just like fabric sleeves. With this smart black dress a fine black felt turhan uses galyack fur for a trim across, its top, from ear This fur band is fuller on the top of the hat and is caught in front by a modernistic pin,
An' ear.
THE tweed frock for under-the-fur-coat-wear has berome a jacket frock or a little jacket suit, in many instances.
The little tweed jacket suit at the lower left is'tan with beaver trim.
Here we have one of the short, faring "jackets that promise a real vogue among women with alender figures next spring. The skirt of tan tweed has deep box pleats. The blouse is hand-woven fine jersey, shot with a glint of gold,
But it is the little daring jacket of this suit that makes it so important. Here is the little jacket at its best-youthful, modish, comfortable.
Beaver gives it a flat edging around the bottom, up the front, around the neck and on the cuffs., Embrol- dered fabric is used instead of for sometimes, to introduce a note of colour. But fur's richness makes It ideal winter trim.,
The tan hat of felt worn with this outfit user-a bit of dark brown to give it n front bandeau and a side and back trim.
For afternoon, the le velvet ensemble at the upper right shows the importance of the separate blouse just now.
.
The costume is trimmed with lynx and the skirt of this wine velvet auit is slightly circular, giving gentle fullness. The coat has a shirred flounce and easy, full sleeves.
The egg-shell satin blouse is almost a basque, with little satin buttons fastening it where the fullness is shirred up and down the front. It has a charming V-effect achloved by a gold hand-cording which points from the centre up to the shoulders. The neckline is plain V. The sleeyes have gold-corded cuffs, with tiny buttons fastening them tight to the wrist.
One of the sweetest things about this costume is the little matching felt hat with its very cute little egg-shell and gold feather fancy right in front,
As for the little cocktail jucket itself, the newest one is the scintillating, exquisite little one shown at the top centre. This is fashioned daintily on fines that sports lumber jacks have made famous.
This, in silver sequins on a rose pink background, is very smart as a top to a chiffon frock that shades from flesh to deep rose. A matching little turban makes a complete costume of gown, little jacket and cap. This is one of the season's popular evening ensembles.
AMONG the newest hats, the one with some in- dividuality in cut and trim la at a premium. Fur is a choice thing for trim, provided it does not make the hat look heavy,
One very new hut in the Hle black felt at the left centre. This takes a tight headband, "with a little bloused fullness in its crown, and then Inserts fur in Hut, petal effects, to form p'smart, down-over-the- cars effect.
The galynek für is used with felt to make the little winter flower for this hat. It is a piece of fine workmanship of extreme dellency and beauty,
This trim hat is typical of the modo, and if you' follow closely the trend of the styles it is easy to nee that the return to the Jacket mode makes smaller hats necessary do stylish appearance.
There is something "so sve?" about a little jacket dress or suit that it calls insistently and naturally for a harmonizing sveltness in the hat to be worn with It.
