OBITUARY:
A FAMOUS CHINESE MONARCHIST.
Peking, Jan. 19. The death has occurred of the famous Monarchist, Liang Chih- chiao, who was Minister of Justice in 1914 and Minister of Finance in 1917. Reuter.
(Mr. Liang Chih-chino was born in 1869, n nativo of Hsinhul, Kwangtung. Ho was a brilliant scholar and best known as Kang Yu-wel's most prominent pupil. He first started a daily paper in Peking, a leaflet containly only an editorial and given away gratis. This was proscribed and he had to fly for his life after the coup d'etat of 1898. In 1899-1911 he resided in Japan and travelled in Europe and America. He organised the Pro Huang Tang to support Emperor Kuang Hau and edited several powerful papers advocat ing a limited monarchy instead of a republic. In 1912 the returned to China and edited a dally in Tientsin advocating the spread of politieni education and diffusion of general knowledge. He was appointed Vice-Minister of Justice but declined. From September, 1913, to February, 1914. he was Minister of Justice and then Head of the Currency Bureau. in 1915 he denounced the Japanese twenty- one demands and preached against Yuan Shih-kal'a monarchicall acheme. He fled from Tiontain and enlisted the support of his pupil, General Tani Ao in Yunnan, In 1917 he advised in favour of joining the Great War and was made Minister of Finance. In 1919 he was adviser to the Chinese delegation to the Paris Conference, Mr. Liang Chih-chino was in great demand as a lecturer and exercised considerable influence through his pen and espousal of Hu Shih's "literary revolution."]

The funeral took place at the Roman Catholic Cemetery at Happy Valley on Saturday of the late Mr. Julio Cecillo Botelho, of No. 339 Moshin Building, Kowloon, whose death occurred shortly before midnight on Friday,
The late Mr. Botelho was accountant in the firm of Messrs. Botello Bros. of Alexandra Build- ing. He was born in Hongkong 43 years ago and is survived by one brother In Hongkong, Mr. A. Botelho, employed by Messrs. Showan, Tomes and Co., Ltd., two brothers in Manila and San Fran- ciaco and three step-sisters. He was a bachelor. Much sympathy will be extended to his relatives in their bereavement.
The graveside service was con- ducted by the Rev. Father G. M. Spada, assisted by the Rev. Father Situ. There was a large gathering of friends to pay their Inst tribute and many wreaths were laid upon

ARMED ROBBERIES.
WOMAN SERVANT FOILS DAYLIGHT RAIDERS.
The promptitudo of a "young Chinese woman anved her house from being robbed by two armed men yesterday morning, when a couple of desperadoes with daggers and knives entered a residence, No. 110, Wellington Street, third floor, about 9.25.

Their plan being frustrated, the two men dashed into the street and scaped, running down Queen's Road Central. Nothing was stolen: and the men left behind them two daggers and a knife.
Mainland Armed Raid. Early yesterday morning, the Police received a report of an armed robbery, in which a man was wounded and one robbers was caught red-handed.

According to the report, two. armed men entered a Chinese timber yard at Reclamation Street. Mongkok District, at 11.45 on Saturday evening. One of the robbers seized the master of the place by the throat, and a severe struggle ensued.
Meanwhile, the noise of the tussle attracted the attention of a foki sleeping at the rear portion of the premises, and this man arrived in the nick of time. AB soon as he arrived on the scene, the foki was met by one of the robbers, who attacked him with a dagger, wounding the foki In the hand. The armed man then made a hasty exit, leaving his companion behind fighting the two inmates, who succeeded in knocking the robber down. They later handed him over to the police,
