Mr. Breakspear responded in suitable terms and admitted that the presentation was no surprise, as he had been approached by various members of the staff, who felt him but as to what he needed most. On a previous occasion he had been pre- sented with gifts on leaving the Colony, but he did not wish it to be understood that he was making 340,044.47 a practice of retiring and coming
back again to collect presents. He The Motor Veskel, thanked all present for their sterl ing co-operation in trying times and was glad that on arrival at Home, he could tell those who were in control of the paper's destiny that they had a stat second to none. The Directors recommend the payment of a final dividend of 59%) In respect of the financial year end- ed 30th September, 1928, absorbing the about $145,000, and that balance be carried forward to next year's account.
The Directors desire to state, in connexion with the new shares issued in 1924 and 1928, that some difliculty has been experienced in determining the exact amount of dividend payable in respect of shares on which the final call and been paid prior to the date of de- claration of dividend.
The opinions of Counsel and of the Company's consulting account- ants were obtained and found to conflict.. The Directora ultimately adopted the consulting accountants' computation ns being the more equitable distribution, and in accord with the intention of the Directors, It was decided therefore that dividend in respect of finnl calla on these shares should be paid only as from the respective dates on which the final calls were due for payment, provided auch calls were received by the Company before the date of de- claration of the dividend.
Directora The Directors regret to record the death on 30th April, 1928, of their colleague on the Board, Mr. Lee Hysan.
During the year, Mr. H. P. White resigned on leaving the Colony, and the following gentle- men joed the Board: Sir Elly Kador, K.B.E., Mr. J. P. Braga, Mr. A. H. While and Mr. J. II. Taggart.
Under Articlo 95 of the Articles of Association, Sir Robert Ho Tung and Mr. C. A. da Roza retire, but being eligible offer themselves for re-election,
Auditors. The Accounts have been audited by Mesara. Lowe,, Bingham & Matthews and Mesara Linstead & Davis, who are eligible for re-election.
