CRICKET NOTES.
[By "Two Leg«"]
The big match on Saturday, that between Civil Service and the Hongkong C.C. at Happy Valley. In the Senior Division of the League, ended rather disas- trously for the home team. The
inclusion of Capt. A. G. Dobbie, of the K.O.S.B., at the last moment in place of Reid, proved a good move for the Club as Dobble did axceedingly well both with bat
and ball:
It was generally expected that this would be
a high-scoring match and the step taken by the Club of declaring at 169 for four wickets appeared rather a bold one bul'as it turned nut they got the Civil Servants out in good time. The Owen Hughes-Dobbie part- nership for the fifth wicket was a brilliant stand, both batsmen belng undefeated at the end.. Owen Hughes' innings for 33 was faultless but Dobbie was dropped more than a couple of times.
"
Kelly, the young Civil Service bowler, who can always be depend- ed upon to get a few wickets, was particularly unlucky as I believe catches he had at least three dropped off him. Ling, probably the only bowler of his type in the Colony (left hand, fast) has fallen off a great deal this season and is not nearly as destructive as he was three years ago,
For the home team, only three' batsmen got into double Agures and the whole side got out for 92-a very poor score for Civil Service Wales had them pretty well tied up and then Owen Hughes came on and took a fow cheap wickets,

The wirket at Craigengover played treacherously for the most.. wing. Tal Queens, part and shooters" were far too frequent. I understand that it was fatal more often than not to lift the bat more than a couple of inches from the ground unless to a full toss. Craigengewer had the better of the luck as they went in firat but it was not long before the wicket got badly cut up.. Still rather expected the Chinese to get the 93 runs for a win. It might have been better if the C.R.C. had paid more respect to S. Abbas, at the commencement as, encouraged by early success with the ball. Abbas has the kuack of taking wickets cheaply. Besides to bowl 12% overs at a stretch is a long spell for him, so that it might be concluded he was really on top form.
