The pirates then took charge of the ship and steered for Chalang Point, later landing with their loot at a salo point, using three of the ship's boats for the purpose and taking a number of the European officers, who were, however, aubsequently returned to their ship.

The Anking was in the control of the pirates from 6.40 p.m. on the 20th up to 2 a.m. un the 28th. With the

departure of the pirates, the wireless equipment, which had hitherto been dismantled by them, was restored to working order and a message sent to the Colony..

Four Witnesses,

Regarding the part played by the accused in the affair, Mr. Fitzroy said evidence of his participation as an | active pirate would be given by four people who had seen him-the wire- Icas operator of the ship, who picked him out at the identification parado held at Pollop Headquarters; Hon Fu-man, the assistant compradore, who anw him stretched on a Better as if sen-sick; Ng Taiam, a stoward who also saw him in that condition; and another saloon boy.

The Arst witness called was Mr. Archibald Irving Campbell, who was Third Officer of the Anking at the time of the pirney.

He said that after dinner, when he was sitting on the bridge deck on the starboard side, he received a blow on the forehend and was then made aware of the presence of pirates on board. As ho went up the ladder to the lower deck, a minute or so later, he saw a number of Chineão running about and flourishing knives. He re- ceived another blow on the forehead

i and was then, stabbed in the back. As he sunk down to the deck, before losing consciousness, he saw the Chief
