·TICHBORNE CASE OF ITALY UP AGAIN.

RICH GRASS WIDOW CLAIMS

MYSTERY MAN.

Public opinion in Italy is once more excited over what has been called "the Italian Tichborne case,"

It concerns the identity of a my sterious person who lost (or saya he lost) his memory, and who was last year variously identified as

A---Prof. Canella, a rich and famous university scholar and philosopher, who went to the war in Salonica in 1917 and was reported missing. B-Bruneri, an escaped convict

thief.

MINISTER'S SPEECH ON

ELECTRICITY.

CRITICISED BY GOVERNOR OF

GAS COMPANY.

Sir David Milne-Watson, Gov- ernor of the Gas Light and Coke Company, made an emphatic pro test recently against a speech delivered by Colonel Wilfrid Ashley, Minister of Transport, on the occasion of the opening of the new Cobden Bridge.

In this speech Colonol Ashley urged the desirability of extend- ing the use of electricity in this country, and described the Work already carried out by the Central Electricity Board.

Colonel Ashley said: "What we want to bring home-and It is very important to the women of the country-is the immense saving of labour which the use of electricity in the home must bring about.”

C-Another criminal, with

several past aliases. Professor Canella's wife (who hod for nine years mourned, as a widow) welcomed the man with the lost memory as her fon-lost hus- band; and he had a luxurious home

At the Luxurious Villa, But appeals have held back the execution of the judgment; and meanwhile the mystery man has been staying with the very rich and highly respected Canella family in

Veronn.

It is a year since one magistrate temporarily assigned the man to the Canella family,

He declares that he now cognises his family; and the Canellas declare that they recognise. him.

Revival of Interest is due to, a civil action which has just been before the Turin court.

Relatives of Bruneri and of Pro- fessor Canella have given evidenco in support of their contention that the man belonged to their family; and each side atubbornly maintained its claim.

For the convict Bruneri appear ed his mother, his ton, his brother and his sister, and they supported their plea with numerous witnesses,

Sir David Milne-Watson's pro- test was made at a luncheon at which the directors of his com- pany were entertaining the mem- hers of the Coke Oven Managers' Managers' Association at the Beckton Works.

Companies' Detriment.

"This speech," sald Sir David, "was not delivered by a member of an electricity undertaking, a member of the Central Electricity Board, or the Electricity. Com- missioners, or even by a man pro- moting a new company. It was delivered by a Cabinet Minister, and the ocension was the opening of a bridge. I cannot protest too speech strongly that such a should have been delivered."

On the other hand.
