WOMEN ATTACK MAN IN POLICE COURT.

Liverpool, Oct. 18. There was a remarkable scena In the police court here to-day, following a father's successful legal fight to gain the custody of his child.

Mr. Harry Nuttall, director of a Manchester shipping company, sought to obtain from his wife, Mrs, Sarah Nuttall, now a waitress in a Liverpool cafe, the custody of their six-year-old child.

At a previous hearing it was stated that, as the result of a persistent bombardment of the ifome Office and M.P.'s, Mr. Nut- tall secured the insertion of ant additional clause in the Guardian- ship of Infants Act, 1925, by which he was enabled to make the present application,

Until the law was thus altered application would have to have been made to the High Court.

Mrs. Nuttall, rosisted the claim, and in the witness box said her husband was unfit to have tho custody of the child.

She said she married Nuttall in cruel, November 1921. He was and their life was unhappy. Ho was not generous with his money. She eventually left him "because she was tired of poverty."

"My husband does not want the child. He knows it is the only way he can strike at me. He never had fealing for the child, in fact he denied that it was his," added Mrs. Nuttall.

Mr. H. D. Judson, for the ap- plicant, said the father proposed that the boy 'should be sent to a kindergarten boarding school in Derbyshire, both parents having access to the child every week- end. The mother would have the child for the first half of every vacation.

The Soviet's Supreme Con- cessions Committee announces the first "slice of the new concessions to bo offer- ed to foreign capital, states the Daily News Moscow correspon- dent. These are all municipal enter- prises, such as buses, trams, gas electricity, water supply, drainage, slaughter-houses, for a total of 400,000,000 roubles (roughly £40,- 000,000) in 60 towns, including Moscow, Leningrad, Odessa, Khar koff, Tiflis, Tashkent, Vladivostock, Novisibirak-the new capital of Siberia and other main industrial centres, "whose rapid growth ensures growing profit" to would-be municipal concessionaires.

No particulars are given, the Concessions Committee confining itself to the following general pro- positiona:

The main demand we shall make on foreign companies will be that their charges for service shall be within the means of our population, at the samo time necessarily guaranteeing an adequate profit for the concessionaire.

With a view to reducing charges, the contracte may be lengthened.

When considerable capital has been invested the concessionaires receive a guarantee that no similar concession will be given in the same region for a fixed term of years.

Compensation may be paid for extensions and improvements on the expiry of the contract,

If the enterprise is bought out before the date of the contracta ex- pire other privileges and facilities may be given to the concessionaires: The preamble explains that Rus- alan cities grow at "American speed" and that they are inere backward than towns in Western Europe. Drainage systems and water and gas services exist in only a few dozen towns.
