Canon Garfield Williams, seere tary of the Missionary Council of the Church Assembly, had some pertinent things to say about the effect of sectionalism upon natives and the difficulties of missionaries. He said:

How often we bewail our empty churches, but what right have wo to expect them to be filled? Why does not the Christianity of to-day attract? Why should it? By tho scandal of our divisions at home as well as abroad its witness la ruined at its moat vital point, ita expres- sion of love in action.

"Tragedy of the Church." Speaking of the Lausanne Con- ference, Dr. A. E. Garvie, principal: of Hackney Congregational College, said that it was a disappointment to him that "the Christans who could pray and praise, meditate on and hear the word of God together, could not fain at the one Table na the Guests of the One Master of the Fenst."

It was the tragedy of the Church that these differences, rooted in the past and not to be easily removed, culminated at that sacred Ordin- aneo.

Professor W. F. Lofthouse, prin- cipal of Handsworth Westeyan College, Birmingham, said that in- ter-communion seemed to Wes-
