CLUB DE RECREIO AT HOME

TAIKOO FUNCTION.

There were two interesting lawn bowls functions on Saturday, the Club de Reczelo celebrating their success in winning the second division championship with an"At Home" at King's Park, and the Taikoo Recreation Club holding their annual closing day and the opening of the new green..

A number of very interesting rink games were played at the Club de Recreio prior to the presentation of the Shield and dag, won by the "A" team in the second division of the Hongkong Lawn Bowls League. The President of the Hongkong Lawn B. Wylie) Bowls Association (Mr. skipped the official rink and Mrs. Wyllo handed to the Captain of the victorious team (Mr. A. Ribeiro) the second division Shield and flag.

It was a very happy and successful gathering. Nearly all the Clubs in the Colony were represented in the rink

which, perhaps, whilst Катев, not taken too seriously, provided some good sport. There were six, rinks engaged, and the visitors won on four of them, the Club de Recreio being the other two by a singló successful point in each cast.

The arrangements were excellent and the afternoon's proceedings pass- ed off pleasantly. At the conclusion of the games, ten was taken and then the Club prizes and the second division shield and flag were pro-

unted.

Mr. J. M. da Rocha, the President of the Club de Beerefo, in a short peech, extended a hearty welcome to the visitors, remarking that it was great pleasure to the Club to ro ceive the much covoted flag as winners of the "B" Division for Inst reason. It would be their pardonable pleasure to exhibit the trophy whenever they had occasion to celebrate events there. "Keen on promotion into the senior grade, our enthusiastic bowlers have, through practice and perseverance, aken to the greon as 'ducks to water. We will not be content with resting on our laurels but will do our best to render a good account of our cives luring next season. In this gather- ing of the clans, if I may adopt a much talked of phraseology of recent date, we find good fellowship which we will try to retain as much as the dag. All of us have enjoyed playing bowls with our associate in the League.

The members of the Club de Recreio thank you, Indies and gentlemen, for giving us the pleasure of your com-

any thin afternoon."

Mr. da Rocha concluded by calling Mrs.. Wylie to present the apon Trophies won in the Club competitions Buring the ecnson. These, Mra. Wylie banded to the following:

Singles Championship.-Winner R. P. Luz; runner-up L.. A. Gutierrez.

Singles Handicap-Wimer C, E. Marques; runner-up 1 A. Rochn,

Doubles Handicap-Winner C. F. Jan and F. X. M. Silva; runners-up M. S. Alves and €. A. Lopez. A Noteworthy Fent.

Mr. B. Wylie, the President of the Hongkong Lawn Bowls Association, n asking his wife to present the Second Division shield and fing to the Club de Recreio, expressed his thanks to the Club for inviting his wife to rive away the Club prizes,

When

he

old her that she would have to pre ent the Second Division Shieki, she aid, "What, another shick? This is ecoming a habit, but he rebuked per hy reminding her that it was a ery serious matter and that it was a shield away much easier to give
