DRESS ETIQUETTE FOR MEN.

6.-GOLF KIT.

(By Scribe)

Whatever game you favour, do dress for it-you will feel so much more like doing your best, and this I think applies more to golf than any other game.

Many men say, Oh! that's good enough-but it "Isn't from your shoes up you should be garbed for the

occasion.

Of course "plus fours" are considered the correct. thing and an odd pair of theso is a good addition to your wardrobe, as worn with a Jersey to tone is nll one wants seldom do you wear a Jacket "doing a round." Take any picture you see of a “gelf" gathering and 90% are in plus fours, although some of the leading

players favour an easy fitting pair of Flannel Trend

of Sliver grey, grey or sand shade, these are worn

a pull-over to tone-very nice and comfortable, too. Many styles of Golf Jackets are on the market, the one I favour most is of the knitted variety, virtually a Jersey and coat in one, and being knitted it has more "give" to it and what's more it has spacious pockets, a big point for any man,

Stockings and Socks should tone with the other clothes worn and in n weight suitable to the wearer. Personally I think a medium weight woollen stocking the best and easier on the feet-but a good deal depends upon the temperature.

Shoes are supplied In innumerable styles and almost every golfer has his own opinion on this matter. Crepe rubber soles are favoured by many also a composi tion sole with studs-I consider a lightish weight shoo with spikes or nails-not too big-are the best all round, but the state of the course makes all the difference-on a wet course I decidedly sny spikes.

For shirt wear I think in the cooler weather a nica soft thin flannel shirt, gives one that "out-in-the- open" feeling and I can safely recommend "Viyella", for such occasions.

With regards headwear, the soft felt and with turn down brim is as comfortable as any, but a well filling cap-providing the sun is not too strong-looks the part.

"What are we to think of the new claims made for sexual pae-: slon, not made by the outcast and the fallen, but by young people born in luxurious homes and] educated at our Universities?| What are WO to think of the decline of the old Puritan sonse of duty and self-restraint, and the demand for sensuous excitement at all costa?" he asked:

"Modern society, he continued, was frankly unchristiana aociety) in which most of the essential ser- vices were scarcely rewarded with a living wage and in which the greatest fortunas could be won by the idlest and most useless mem- bers; a society in which an honest and, industrious man could toil all his life at work socially essential for a wage upon which he and His family could scarcely live, and In which a worthless speculator could amass an enormous fortune in a few years.

The Christian Society.

When society was really Chris-). tlan, he declared, no children would be born in slums, to the enfeeblement of their bodies and the degradation of their minds; no crowds of disheartened men would tramp the streets in search of work; no women would sicken to their death in diamat, crowded dwellings, when a sea voyage" or a long holiday in the country would restore them to health.

In that day, also, no gangs of bookmakers would infest our sport folds like ill-omened birds of prey, and no speculating stock- brokers would be allowed to gamble in the primal needs of life to the hurt of the whole Common- wealth.

There was much in social pro- gress for which to be devoutly thankful, he agreed, but sober judgment compelled the verdict that the stops of society were net yet set firmly on the upward

track.

The Rov. J. B. Ackroyd, of Har- row, apeaking at the afternoon acsalon, referred to the crusade of tho American Churches in favouri of world peace. That policy, be sald, was a real part of the pro- gramme of the Churches. In America. It was not being left to politicians.:
