The activities of the Firestone Tyre and Rubber Company In Malaya, since that time should prove very interesting reading. In the first placo, it should be stated that the Firestone Company are Car manufactures of Motor Pneumatic Tyres and. Tubos and Solid Tyres for heavier com- mercial vehicles. Their factorien are situated in Hamilton, Ontario, Los Angeles, Akron, and at present] a large manufacturing plant lo bo- ing laid down near London, Eng- land. It requires about 29,000,000 rubber trees occupying 290,000 acres of land and worked by 07,000 labourers to keep these factories supplied with crudo.rubber. During the last year and a half the Firestone Company established its own selling organisation in Singapore in order to market Firestone Gum Dipped Pneumatic and Solid Tyres as well as other well-known Firestone Products; this selling organisa- tion controls the distribution of the Company's products throughout Slam, Malaya, Straits Settlements and Dutch East Indies. All busi- ness is conducted through local dealers to their profit.
Large stocks of Firestone pro- ducts are warehoused in Singapore. All monies paid to the local selling organisation, for tyre purchases as Jarge additional sums are re-spent in Malaya in the buying of crude rub- the Company's her, requirements, which means without exaggeration, that the Firestone Company is respon- sible for the annual circula- tion In Malaya of millions of dollars, thus contributing largely to the prosperity of the Straits Settlements.
