GERMAN PREPARATIONS TO START NEXT YEAR.

An article in the French technical paper "Les Ailea," one of the best informed aero-náutien] journals, analyses in detail the German plan to start a flying boat service across the South Atlantic next year..

"The entire energies of German aviation," says the writer, are now focussed on the Atlantic." Elaborate meteorological studies were made, and five Atlantic routes were examined from tho point of view of weather suit- ability. It was found that the route to South America, via the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, and Brazil, could be operated all the year round, but that the rouls to North America would be imprac- ticable in winter owing to the high winds.

A main "feeder" line for routes to both North and South America was established. It covered Ber lin, Frankfort, Basle, Genova, Marseilles, Barcelond, and Madrid, and drained the mail and paisen- ger hir traffic from Contral Europe.

Meanwhile, the Baltic was used as a laboratory for tests with giant flying boats made by Dar- nier, and Rohrbach.,..

It is stated that preparations for the improvement. and extension of the Transatlantic Hines In the fu- ture aro already being made. One hundred ton flying boats are tak Ing shape on paper, and numerous other advanced designs, are being produced. It will thus be seen that the first Transatlantic, afri service is likely to be a flying boat! and not 'tin airship service.
