In reply to the Coroner witness said that since the girl's death witness understood that if he paid the mother $900 the injury would never have been held. He had consulted his solicitors and had refused to pay the money although at one time he had suggested giv- ing her $200.

This concluded all the evidence, In reply to the Coroner, Mr. Cal. throp, who watched the inquiry on behalf of the Police, sald that officers under five years service had to obtain the sanction of the Captain Superintendent of Polico | KHIVA before getting married. The Coroner summed up at length reviewing the evidence and In conclusion informed the Jury that their only verdict was one of In returning a verdict according- suicide while of unsound mind,

(a) The Jury think it should be made clear to the Chinese, if pos sible, that marriage with Euro- peans, evoking British Law can only be according to that Law.

(b). We suggest that the identi fication form used at the mortuary should be in both English and Chinese instead of English only as le at present.

The Coroner thanked the jury for their careful attention during the inquiry and sold that he would bring their services to the notice of the registrar. He agreed with their verdict.
