At the out-break of the Spanish- American War the late Mr. Minton took up his residence in Honolulu and lived there up t the time of his death. He was a member of the Yokuluma United Club and a ·eon» de Lacy temporary of pursers Goodrich, Harry Jerome, Benjamin Harnett, Chandler Howard and Cap- tains Seabury, Ward, Tremaine Smith and many others.

The death took place at the Matilda Hospital on Friday night of Capt. Henry Davenport, who arrived The late in the Colony in 1920. Captain was born in London in April 1869 and was therefore 68 years of age. He leaves A widow and three sons In Suva, Java, and a sister in Christchurch, New Zealand where he emigrated with his parents at the age of three. BIG FACTOR IN U.S. ELECTIONS.

In view of the letter of Mr. Raskob, Chairman of the National .to his Democratic Committee subordinate committeemed and other leaders, prohibition is bound to be an important issue in the {forthcoming presidential election.

The letter says: "Social condi- tions all over the country have reached a state of decadence that demands correction. My feeling is that a scheme of control of the manufacture and sale, transports- tion and consumption of intoxicat- ing liquor, whereunder it shall be at hand for home consumption, and which will prevent the return of the saloon, which was the medium through which the use of liquor was abused, would in such communities 419 vote therefor under the local option law, be welcomed by all."-Reuter's American Service,
