FIRST ORGANISED TOURNA- MENT FOR TWO YEARS.

The first golf competition to be held in Canton since May. 1925 took place un the course of the Tubgshan Recreation Club during last week, ending yesterday.

It was in the nature of a Mixed Foursuing Competition over 18 Holes Medal, Flay for two! cupa probautod by Messra. I. W. Parsons and A. N. Spencer of lie British-Amerlang,Tobacco, Cem- pany and Ar. L. F. Townend 'of the Union Insurance Society of Canton.

Owing to heavy rains the com- petition had been postponed twice and as it was the course was thoroughly soaked during the whole week of play.

The best score was returned by Mrs. Batchelor and Mr. F. E.. W. Lammert (plus 14), 12 nett, with Mrs. Laffond and Mr. R. K. Batche lor (plus 2) runners up with a net score of 95; there whs tio for third place Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Annett (plus 12) and Mrs. Kit- ching and Captain R. O. Ruther- ford (plus 10) returning 96' nett.

Others returning cards were: Mrs. Clements & Mr. A. T. Lay; Mrs. Gandossi and Mr. G. E. Wat son: Mrs. Watson and Mr. F. Gandosal; Mrs. Rodgor and Mr. G. H. Bowker Mrs. Maas and Mr. J. T. Smith; Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Sokáll; Mrs, Townend and Mr. W. M. Stratton.

Mr. J. M. Walker was obliged to acratch owing to the sudden illness of his partner Mrs Stration; during the week, however, Mr. Walker made a record score for holes in 55 the course doing 18 against bogey 70..

Another competition has boon arranged for the four best-cards returned during July and August over nine holes, Medal Play, under soaled handicaps for the "Capatun Cup" very kindly presented by the British-American Tobacco Com- pany. To win this cup outright it must be won three times in suc- cession of five times in all. It is anderstood that a similar competi- tion is being arranged for ladies.
