The public car drivers argue that, they should have an much consideration from the authorities as the Taxi Company, seeing that they supplied a much needed wanted, during the past year. Most of the cars are purchased on the instalment plan and the pre- ference shown, by the authorities to taxis is making the task of meeting the instalments rather difficult.
The meeting decided that the
authorities he approached and same understanding as to an equal right in the public car ranks, should be arranged.
TAIKOO DOCKYARD DEATHS.
INQUIRY CONCLUDED.
The death of a fitter through an explosion of gas in the oil tanker Wabashn and the asphyxiation, two days Inter, of another workman while the ship was lying in the Taikoo Dockyard, formed the subject of a Coroner's Enquiry which was resum ed before Mr. R. E. Lindell at the Central Police Court yesterday after
noon.
In returning a verdict of Death by Misadventure, the jury added two re commendations: firstly, that the Gov. ernment should make compulsory the issue of a gas-free certificate by the Government Analyst before work was undertaken, and, recondly, that the Dockyard should be required by Gov. ernment Regulations to supply their employees with an electric or safety lamp when engaging in zimilar haz ardous work.
The meeting decided that the Chamber could do no, better than follow the lead of the Tung Wah Hospital, recognised as the lend lug charitable Institution in the Colony.
The Chairman of the Tung Wah Hospital who was present at the meeting said that the Hospital had not received letters from the ar- ganisations who lind addressed the Chamber, but stated that he had been approached by the Shangtang Merchants' Guild and that as 20771 as they know definitely the ex- tent of the devastation in Tsinan they would raise the necessary sub. | scriptions, Meantime, y person wished to donate, the Hon- pital was quite willing to take. charge of the money.
