Mr. Wolfe's Reply.

Mr. Wolfe's reply was as fol- lows: I consider that. Mr. Sirdar. Khan das very much overstated the case,-I think that is the proper legal expression-on may behalf. The Indian community, repre- sented by members of the Khalsa Diwan, and the Indian Muslim So-1 ciety were hosts yesterday to the Hon. Mr. E. D. C. Wolfe, C.M.G., and Mrs. Wolfe, M.B.E., at a tea party given in the roof garden of the Hongkong Hotel.

As regards myself, I consider the case has been very much over- stated. In other words, gentle- iman, I wish to thank you very Practically all the prominent much for offering me your hospita members of the Indian community lity in the manner which you have were present and it was noticed done this afternoon and what' that the heads of the different sirikes me as a most surprising Government departments and their and most pleasing feature is to see wives, were amongst the guests: the whole of the Indian community The Hotel band supplied an ex-represented together In this cellent selection of music for the friendly spirit in one gathering, occasion

Mr. Sirdar Khan, addressing the Captain Superintendent of Folley said;

Ladies and Gentlemen,-In rising to speak on behalf of my com patriots this afternoon, I am con- selous of the honour they have done me in selecting me as their spokesman on this auspicious oc- ension. Having undertaken this responsible, but pleassat, taak, I shall to the best of my ability dis- charge the duties incumbent on a apeaker on an occasion like this, notwithstanding that speech-mak- ing is one of those tasks which I would prefer to leave undone.

To you, Mr. Wolfe, I have the honour of extending the heartiest

welcome.

That welcome comes not from any one section or party of the Indian Community. The function this afternoon,

you may be aware, is under the aus pices of both the Khalsa Diwan and the Indian Muslim Society which, broadly speaking, covers nimost every Indian resident in the Colony and domiciled in India.
