·WARPLANE.
ARMAMENT OF BOMBS, GUNS AND TORPEDO.
HOVERING FLIGHT.
A new fighting acroplane the most remarkable craft ever bullt for warfare in the skies-has been completed for the Air Ministry at Brough, on the Humber.
Capable of a speed of 150 miles an hour, it is yet able to remain in the air for 12 hours with a full load, discharge a torpedo weigh ing a ton and drop hombs..
Probably the most striking fea- ture of the aeroplane is its ability to take off in a run of 50 yarda and ascend almost vertically. Military attaches and air experta from many countries travelled to this out-of-the-way haven on the Humber to-day to see Britain's Intest Ighting machine put through its paces.
The nations represented at the trials were:-
Argentine,
Brazil, Chile,
Finland, Greece, Italy,
Japan,
Norway,
Sweden,

With an ordinary machine theaO would have meant certain death, but every time the machine recovered its equilibrium. The occasion was also used to demonstrate the brillance of Air Force flying, and Squad-Leader Noakes, of Martlesham R.A.F. station, one of Britain's "crack" pilots and a during exponent of "crazy" flying, took the air in a tiny fighting 'plano.
Strapped to his seat and sitting on his parachute, Capt. Noakes did every conceivable stunt-looping, flying upside down for a mile or more, missing shed roofs appar ently by inches, dropping tail first, and racing a few feet from the ground with his machine at an angle of 40 degrees.
All this he did at a speed doable that which he has attained at any public display,
Foreign attaches looked gravo and their wives looked away. When Captain Noakes landed and stepped calmly out of his machine there was some cordial applause -an unusual thing at such officia! gatherings.
