was this shot, which was meant for me, that killed the No. nirate's brother, who was on the bridge at the time."

Mr. Forster then made his way to the Chief OMeer's room, warn- od him that there were pirates about and urged him to get his gun londed. Next he made his way along the flying bridge of the ship to the poop and informed the third engineer (Mr. Thompson) titat pirates were attempting to gain control of the ship. He mention- ed that the pirates were very ex- cited and would shoot anybody at sight. In attempting to get back to his own cabin in order to secure ran his revolver, Mr. Forster right into the pirates, who took him to his room and disarmed him.

Guards Captured. t Later, Mr. Förster joined the Captain and the Chief Officer out- side the Captain's cabin, where he found the four guards of the ship sitting on a table in charge of the pirates. He was ordered. to go on the 'bridge and get the ship under way. The quarter- masters had disappeared and could not be found, and with no light to the compass, steering had to be done by guesswork only.

At first the pirates were very excited, but later they allowed the officers a little more freedom. They were directed to steer for Swatow, but all through the yo yage the pirates continually change- ed their minds. At one time they said they desired to go to Little Hongkong (Aberdeen), saying that the Chief and Second Officers would be taken ashord and later réleased provided the pirates were not chased. Then, as the Tean was passing Hongkong, the pirates decided to go to Sa Man Island. When off Hongkong, they throg tened that If the ship passed any-- where within twenty miles, of Gap Rock they would shoot everybody. On arrival at Sa Munthe pirates again changed their minde and wanted to go to Ping Hai.

Half-way across, noticing that, Bina Boy was apparently clear, they decided to disembark, there. On reaching the Bay a British war- ship, which eventually turned out to be H.M.S. Somme, was seen ly- |ing at anchor. There was im-
