in, Lieut. Oliizky, as we all know, presented a most elaborate report on that outbreak, and, incident- aily, his visit cost the Colony a nico little aum of money. Not only did he deal with the disease itself, but he reported at great length on the" overcrowding evil, which is without question a factor in the perpetuation of many other diseases here. Yet it is perfectly true, as Mr. Koch said, that that valuable report has been pigeon- holed. It may, of course, be given an airing if and when we get an- other outbreak, but it will be too Jate thon. Sa far as typhoid is concerned, we all recall the wild guesses that were made as to its origin on the occasion of the last big epidemic, but we feel that the cause for the fairly frequent recurrence of this disease here has still to be discovered. We are nt one also with Dr. Koch when he refers to the insanitary manner in which food is exposed for sale in our markets and in which meat is carried through our dusty strools wholly, uncovered. There is need for rigorous action under this hending. Our markets, too, are far from what they should be. Some of them resemble the KELLER KERN & Co., Ltd. Black Hole of Calcutta, so dark and dingy and so bereft of fresh air are the majority of them.

On the general question, we are convinced that these matters of public health will not receive the attention which they should until there is a very real fusion of the Sanitary and Medical Services. So far, the only step taken in that direction is the change in the title of the P.C.M.G. When that fusion is an accomplished fact, there should follow
a serious, well-planned health campaign, which must hever be relaxed.
