Tinting your Hair. Vogue of The Shawl. Beauty which Lasts.

HINTS FOR THE WOMAN WHO IS GOING GREY.

With a perfect complexion and youthful-looking features, silver,

hair can bo most attractivo, especially if funds permit one to dress in the soft, delicate shades: which make the white-haired wo man appear so striking.

'│

But to the average woman white hair is not becoming. The first few grey hairs seem to mark the passage from youth to middle-age, and it is perhaps for that reason so many women resort to some form of linting as soon as the hair be- gins to lose its natural colour.

Tinting Can Be Successful,

The reason dyed hair so often looks artificiul is due to the fact that the wrong shade is chosen for colouring it, and also because when the tinting is done at home the hair is not properly prepared.

It is a great mistake to choose ja, shade lighter thin one's natural colour. As the years pass all fair hair, and most shudes of brown, especially the lighter ones, grow darker, and by the time the hair: starts to "o grey It has become con- aiderably darker than in one's youthWhen getting a tinting- shampoo decide on a shade nu near the natural colour as can be ob tained, letting it be slightly darker rather than lighter, and remember that the longer the shampoo re- mains on the head the deeper the colour will be. It should always be allowed to remain on the hair for 15 minutes, and longer if a deep shade is desired.

Prepare the Hair First.

The success of any tint or colour- ing of any sort depends upon the hair being entirely free from grense when it is applied. Grease makes the tint weltle in streaks, giving a patchy, dyed look to it. The fact that grease has not been! applied to the hair doch not prevent it from, being greasy from the point of view of applying a tint. There is always a certain amount of oil natural to the hair, and this must be removed.

In order to have beauty that lasts it is necessary to keep tho skin fresh and the contours firm, and to remember that the attrac tiveness and durability of the akli and firmness of the flesh depend in a large measure on whether tho body is healthy or not.

What to Eat and to Avokl Before proceeding to loanl treat- ments, therefore, it is important fo "set the house in order"-to keep the body clean inside and out, i supple and strong with physical exercises, to eat a sufficient quan- tity of the right kind of food, to see that eggs are really new laid, that butter, cream, and vegetables are absolutely fresh and meat in

It is always well to massage a little oil into the roots of hair that has been tinted a day or two after the tint has been applied, as all colouring substances tend to dry the hair and make it harsh and brittle.

A good tonic should also be a plied every two or three months for a couple of weeks, as tinting ori dveing the hair is not beneficial to its growth, which, therefore, needs Ito be stimulated from time to time.
