BRITISH INDUSTRY IMPROVING.
NOW BACK TO PRE-WAR RATE OF PROGRESS.
SHIPBUILDING LEAD.
London, May 8.
It is being suggested it would not necessarily, be advantageous for manufacturers to establish in this country systems for mass produc- tion of common qualities of steel products. It is declared, that the position of industry, is improving, manufacturers bein convinced that this country has got back to the normal rate of steady increase that obtained' before 1914.
It is noted that the motor indus try is improving and that this coun- try is likely to lead the world in the production of motor cycles, the only serious competitor being the United States. Britain also lenda in medal cycles, Germany coming next.
Great progress has been made since the war in electrical manufac- turing. The output of lampa has been better since the war than be- fore, and the exports of telegraph. and telephone instruments and ap- paratha have increased. The ex- port of electric lamps has more than trebled in the same period.
We have also regained our supre maey in shipbuilding. The ton- nare launched in 1927 rose to near- ly 54 per cent. of the world's out- put.British Wireless.
