There is plenty of real fun about "TheGay Retreat," the war. comedy dlm now showing at the Queen's Theatre. It is sheer burlesque for the most part, and, viewed from that angle, in intense- ly amusing. A millionaire's son joins up with the American forces, as also do his master's valet and chauffeur in order to look after the son, who is given to
The sleep-walking.
trio go through all manner of experiences, Fort Bayard leach more amusing than its pre-Holhow, Pakhoi and Haiphong
decessors, and it is in the depict ing of these incidents that the fun of the picture lies. Most of the comedy is provided by Sammy Cohen and Ted McNamara, the former being especially good in all that he does. There is A wonderfully-amusing climax, cal. culated to send the most «grumpy individual into roars of laughter. If you want an enjoyable hour, sed "The Gay Retreat."
Other features of the pro- gramme are a comedy in which wild animals get loose in a house, A news real showing the Afgban King's arrival in London, and a most attractive Pathe Pictorial.
Robert Irving, of Maxwelltown, Kirkcudbrightshire, though unable to swim, plunged into the River Nith in an endeavour to save his three-year-old son. The father lost his life, but the child was rescued by a young man, William Smith, who went to the rescue, after another man was forced to b.give up owing to exhaustion.
