J. F. Owaley, formerly cashier- accountant of the Dollar Steam- ship Line, in Manila, who pleaded guilty recently on two charges of estafa has been sentenced by Judge Emilio Mapa, of the Court of First Instance of Manila, to a total of seven year, one month and two days imprisonment. The accused entered Bilibid last Satur- day.
The accused, at the same time was ordered to indemnify the Dollar line in the total sum of Pesos 18,921.15 will subsidiary Imprisonment in case of insol vency. The money which Owaley misappropriated, belonged to tha Company.

Washington, Jan. 3.-The Supreme Court has decided that. the explorer, Dr. Frederick A Cook, must serve his sentence, of. 14 years and nine months in the Federal prison. Cook was con- victed in 1923 of using the mails to defraud in connexion with an oil stock selling scheme. He en- tered prison in 1925, and is now Laged 67. Dr. Frederick A. Cook claimed to have discovered the North Pole on April 21, 1908.
