The enquiry into the death of Mr. Hugh Conway, Chief Officer of the San Nam Hol, and two Indian guarda- during the recent piracy, was tinued before Major C. Willson at the Central Magistracy yesterday:

afternoon.

con-

An Indian guard' stated he was sleeping when three pirates entered his room. Roused-from sleep by the firing of shots, he saw three pirates stand over him with rifles. They left as he fell back on his bunk and i lay still. Hir rifle was taken from the cabin and he was left unarmed.

Later, as he ventured out on deck, he was fortunate enough to find a loaded rifle, and took pot shots at pirate who had jumped into the water. That man was seen to sink, having apparently been wounded.

In the forepart of the ship, the Chlef Officer was lying, dead, and three paces further on the port alde, ? a.m. Sun. 12th. Fob at
