21-Year-Old Cars.
"LONDON'S COMMEMO-
RATION.
Commemorating the 31st anni- versary of the Emancipation Itun, which took place when the Red Fing Act was repealed, 44 old cars traversed the roads from London to Brighton (Eng.) last month.
Actually 51 vehicles entered and led the requirement of being at least 21 years old; but only 44 started.
Of these, 37 reached their des tination; and 21 of them achieved non-stop runs,
Oldest car was an 1898 Panhard, while ancient Daimlers, Renault, Benz, Cadillacs, Oldsmobiles, Rovers, and Vauxhalls were entered, The only four-cylinder car was a Rolls-Royce of 1908 vintage.
Most of the voterans splundered and coughed and lenked oil and water at every' opportunity, but they ran.

In re-connecting the engine to the car when the latter is still in motion. When gears have been shifted.

What Causes This Knock? Question: After having all new piston rings installed and main and connecting-rod bearings taken up there is a loud knock or thump in the engine, when the car is running fat 25 m.p.h. and over, but this is not heard with the engine idling. Small Cars: Being Vindicated.
Now that small British cars are becoming more numerous, evidence

not lacking in proof of what
they can do. Take the results of recent Australian test for ex- 'ample. A 24-hour Reliability and Petrol Consumption Trial was con- ducted recently by the Victoria (Australia) Light Car Club. The course chosen was one of 504 milea and included samples of tylcul Australian country "reads,". and the high speeds demanded over gutters, wafa-outs and potholes would have tried the stamina of any car, no matter what its size or price.
To cite a typical performance by British small care in this event. Nine Morris-Cowleya were enter- ed (three teams), seven of their drivers, having never previously taken part in a trial. Each one finished with 100 por cent. score and won a gold award; each of the three teams won a gold award; and the first and second prizes in their class for petrol consumption (32.67 m.p.g. and 31.5 m..g.) were also secured.. Technical experta who examined the cars on com- pletion of the course could find no signs of strain or damage.
|CATCHING THIEVES,
Private Garage Check.
To prevent car thieves, using private garages as hiding places for cars which they alter or strip of accessories, soverál cities in the U.S.A. have passed regulations forcing owners to report within 24 hours after they have let 'thoir garagva.
The result of this is that many; Blen' cars were discovered, ne the names of the renters did not appear on police records as owners of cars..
