'ANNUAL DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES.

Ellis Kadoorie School held their annual prize distribution this morning, when the awards were presented to the scholars by the Hon. Sir Shou-son, Chow, who was supported by several local gentle- education men interested in generally and the School in parti cular... Amongst those on the plat form was the Headmaster (Mr. F. the review for 1027, The average attendance of 600 before the troubles of 1025 fell to 250 on re pening in September, 1925. Since ther, the numbers have gradually crept up until now it is about 440. Many applicants have been refused admittance to all classes: It was felt that the sounder policy was to re- build the school from the bottoin up classes with casuals rather than who far too frequently are over-age and failures in other schools. This policy, hope, will bear fruit within the next year or two when the great majority of the boys in the top class will have gote right through the school. Since February last year, we have accommodated over 400 boys from King's College and the average attendance was nearly 300. This has somewhat retarded the normal growth of Ellis Kadoorie School-we wer very glad to shelter the King's College boys under our spacious roof, but I imagine both schools are glad to be separate entities again.

Within the last two years, may improvements have been effected in the amenities

the building: the sanitary arrangements have been much improved both for boys and staff, the hitherto open class rooms on the top floor have been enclosesi; electric light and overhead fans have been installed throughout; and the atrocious surface of our No. 1 Volley Ball court will shortly be a thing of the past.

General Knowledge,

In spite of the great congestion of last year and with many classes of almost 10-boys, the annual examina- tions held last month show that, on the whole, good work has been done-- examined. 86% passed out of 750

School Libraries.

The Libraries, under the general supervision of Mr. Lo Wai-kwan, have been kept in splendid condition in Ispite of heavy usage. The English 700 Library for boys consists of

volumes, all within the compass of a. school boy and graded according to class. It is used entirely for silent reading lessons in school hours and many boys read through 9 or 10 books in the course of last year. This" g bound to have a great effect eventual
