The museum and dwelling-house are under one continuous roof, therefore, the museum is practically at domestic fire risk, while a low verandah of rustic wood posts with wood and tile roof which stretches along the front, adds materially to fire danger; moreover, the wall be- tween the museum" and dwelling- house is not carried, as is now deemed essential, above the roof line.

Structural Alterations.

Two of these suggestions, the in- truétiam qf a fire water main into a

fire- the cottage grounds and a proof door at the museum entrance, have since been carried out, but the other structural alterations, in- cluding the carrying of the wall hetween the museum and the dwell. ing-house nine inches above the roof and across the verandah, have been left in abeyance. Nothing, however, has yet been done regard- ing the suggestion made for the better protection against fire, with concurrent water damage, of the irreplacabile commonplace book, which is the gem of the collection, nor of the many unijue and in- valuable manuscripts and other rure and irrecoverable treasures, which the museum contains.

From time to time, the contents of the museum" are being choicely added to, and only a few months ago the privately owned Fintry Letters were entrusted to the care of the trustees: but these 'Letters are unfortunately exposed, as are the other muscum exhibits, in wood, instead of in light metal cases, and all, therefore, liable to quick, and almost inevitable destruction from fire or water should the museum from any cause get well-nlight.

It was suggested that all port- able exhibits suitably prepared for handling should each night (us in the Kilmarnock Burns Bluseum since the theft of its, "First Edi- tion) be placed for greater security in fireproof safes.

Risks Museums Run.

In a museums there must be, contingent and incidental risks: but where museum is known to be not absolutely fireproof it is nút unreasonable to ask that all world treasures, such as are held at Alloway, should have every pre- cautionary measure that is possible. taken for their safeguarding and security. Should fire or concurrent water damage occur, or, if in the absence of reasonable preventible measures, any of the irreplacable treasures which are in the keeping of the trustees should unfortunately be destroyed, theirs might not only be individual and personal respon- sihility, but unless full foresight had been exercised, opprobrium and bitter censure.

It is, therefore, with the earnest from desire not only to secure danger the structures and contents of the cottage and museum, but to prevent

reflection also possible. upon a body of trustees who have in all other respects so ably and successfully directed affairs, that the attention of the Associated Ayr- shire Clubs is directed to the matter.

The Association has unanimously adopted the report, and resolved to do everything within its power to have precautionary efforts taken for the safety of the cottage 'and museum.

RECENT scientific findings point to a

viscous film that forms on teeth as the enemy of healthy teeth and gums. To a stubborn film which ordinary brushing has failed to combat effectively.

As a result, largely on dental advice, the tonth-cleaning habits of many people are being radically changed.

Many methods considered right yester day are judged inadequate today, Modern dental acicace has made important new advancements. Findings that mean much in dental prophylaxis. These are embodied in the special film-removing dentifrice called Pepsodent.

Now an effective film combatant For years dental science sought ways to 6ght file Clear teeth and healthy gums come only when film is constantly com-. bated-removed every day from the teeth. Film was found to cling to teeth; to get into crevices and stay; to hold in con- tact with teeth food substances which fer mented and fostered the acids of decay. Film was found to be the basis of tartar. Germs by the millions breed in it. And they with tartar, are the chief cause of pyorrhea and mest gum disorders.

Thus there was a universal call for an

Pepsodent acts first to curdle the film. Then it thoroughly removes the film in gentle safety to enamel.

At the same time, it acts to firm the gums-Pepsodent provides, for this pur- pose, the most recent dental findings in gum protection science knows today. Pep- sodent also multiplies the alkalinity of the salira, And thus aids in neutralizing mouth acids as they form.

It multiplies the starch digestant of the saliva. This combats starch deposits which might otherwise fernient and form acids.

No other method known to present-day science embodies protective agents ko those in Pepsodent,
