EIGHT HOUR DAY.

ARBITRATOR INSISTS ON

INTRODUCTION.

herum, Dec. 16. The decision of the official ar- Hitrator in the iron and steel in- dustry dispute insists on the in- trafuction of an eight-hour day and three shifts in the Thomas Steel. Works by January 1, but pro-| visionally grants exceptions to other kinds of steel works, which, however, must introduce the eight- hour day in the course of the year 1928. The arbitrator declares that) au all-round wage increase is im- practicable since the eight-hour day will further burden the indus- try. He considers a two per cent | increase in existing wages to be appropriate,--Kenter.
