That the tickling of his foot by a policen aroused a man supposed to be in a trance was alleged at Halifax, when an entertainer de scribing himself as Professor Charles Merritt, 68, of Pembroke 'road. Bristol, was charged with obtaining money by false pretences. Four persons were charged with aiding and abetting him.

It was stated that Morritt had given performances at Halifax, Sowerby Bridge, Keighley, and Pudsey, and at gick place purport- ed to put a man inla an hypnotic sleep which lasted for six days. The Halitas police went to Pudsey and saw the performance. They tickled the feet of the man who was sup- posed to be in a trance, with the result that he rose and get out of the casket in which he was lying; for public view.
