THE DEATH SENTENCE FIVE TIMES.

OFT-RESPITED MURDERER HANGS HIMSELF.

THE FASTING WIFE.

Russell T. Scott, formerly known as a rich Canadian contractor and speculator, who was five times sentenced to death for the murder

of a drug store salesman in Chi- cago in April 1924, has committed suicide in the County Gaol, in Chicago by hanging himself with

his belt.

The gliding competition held annually in the Rhon Mountains has acquired 72 international significance. It has, indeed, be- come a regular sporting and aerial event of the first rank; and, as usual, this year's event was

characterized by some remark- able successes both in the per- formances themselves and in the contrivances exhibited.

The competitions were grouped in three divisions, namely, one for training, one for advanced pupils, and one for performances,

His counsel, in tears and on his knees, implored the judge to be allowed to withdraw the plea of "uilty insisting that his client

To this the judge consented. The case went to trial, and Russell Scott was found guilty and sen- tenced to death.

Subsequently he was declared sane, and was again tried and sen- tenced to be hanged.

To raise funds for his defence, his wife publicly exhibited herself on a "starvation strike."

With funds obtained by 3rs, Russell Scott's enterprise in De- troit, and with other money con- tributed by influential Detroit women and others, four successive reprieves were obtained.
