SEQUEL TO STEAMER AFFAIR.

EIGHT CHINESE IN COURT TO-DAY-

OBJECTIONS TO BAIL

ÅR a sequel to the affair on board the s.8. Paul Beau on Friday last when police aid was sum- moned to break up on alleged meeting held by men who were supposed to have been concerned with union activities, eight Chinese appeared before Mr. R. E. Lindsell, at the Central Pollee Court this morning, One of these, Fan Tat-hing, a head ateward of the steamer, who was defended by Mr. McCallum, was charged with absenting himself from duty, and with being one of those who participated in an un- authorised meeting en board. The seven other defendants were charged with being on board with out the permission of the Master of the boat, and also with attend ing an unauthorised meeting.

The Magistrate indicated that he would hear the case at 2.15 on Thursday afternous.

Detective Sergeant Lozeskwy, prosecuting in the case, said that one of the witnesses, a seaman, would not be again available if his evidence was not taken forth- with.
