DECORATION
[To the Editor, Hongkong Telegraph.]
Sir, The brilliant display given by E. C. Fincher whon he carried his bat through the innings for a score of 74 runs in the cricket match, In- terporters versus The Rest, was the | outstanding feature of Saturday's play. Not only on the strength of that performance, but in view of his excellent record in local cricket, I am strongly
of opinion-an opinion which is, I am sure, shared by a large number of followers of the great summer game that Fincher should have been selected to represent Hong- kong in the forthcoming triangulär Interport games.
If I remember aright, Fincher's name appeared around the top of the list of batting averages at the close of the last season. I have followed this young ericketer's progress with a great deal of interest and am convine el that he is one of Hongkong's out standing players, a very sound bat and a good fielder.
Fincher was unlucky to have been dismissed for a "duck" at the first Interport Trial match, but on Satur- day he more than made up for that earlier reverse; with the exception of that difficult chance early in the game Fincher treated the spectators In a sterling exhibition, giving a fine all-round display of clever. hitting against the pick of Hongkong Low lers and remaining undefeated when the Innings was declared closed.
I 'am not personally acquainted with Mr. Fincher, but, in fairness to him and in recognition of his ability at the same, I would urge that he might be given the opportunity to play for Hongkong in the Interport Serion. He will be strongly support ed by a whole host of Hongkong boys and I feel certain that he will not Hisappoint us.-Yours, étc.,
Carric,
LOCAL RACING. Sir-Regarding the Race Meeting on Saturday last there are two points on which I wish to say a few words, and trust that you will allow me the liberty of using your columns.
1. In the first race, doubt exists ns to whether the accepted start is in Recordance with the rules of rac- ing.
It appears that one pony was six lengths away before the starter flagged, and, owing to the import- ance of this race, much clarity of opinion is being evcked.
Could light be thrown on this 'starting point, please, by your followers of the turf? I may add that I am not particular as to which pony has won the race.
2. In the sixth race, at the bend of the last quarter it looks as though a grey pony was boring away from the rails Impeding the track of an
