ARMISTICE DAY.
POPPY DAY APPEAL: EARL
HAIG'S MESSAGE.
The Poppy Sub-committee of the Focal Branch of the British Legion have received the following mes- sage from Earl Haig in connexion with their appeal for funds on on Armistice Day:
Father Lynch was dangerously
at St. Vincent's Hospital, Sydney, for some months, and his demise was not entirely unexpect ed. He wrote to Bishop Valtorta. and his friends fn Hongkong on September 19, asking for their prayers, as he knew that his. disease was incurable, At that time he was cheerfully resigned, and calmly awaited death.
He spoke 30 often in hla ser- mons of "Death riding on the White Horse ..elaiming his Victims" that his words must be readily recalled by many of his hearers in Hongkong.
The late Bishop Pozzoni initiat ed the invitation to English- speaking preachers ta crime over here from Manila to conduct the Lenten Mission in Hongkong, and. the late Father Lynch was the first to answer the appeal in 1911..
His pleasing personality, and· Incisive and powerful sermone readily endeared him to the Catho- lie cornmunity.
Unfortunately the climate of the Philippine Islands was not con- ducive to the well being and health of Europeans and, like many other missionaries, Father Lynch, had to leave for Australia to recuperate. Hongkong had the pleasure of hearing him during three seasons, and his friends hore will mourn his loss to the Church.
