SOUTH AMERICAN MEALS AT SEA

1:

Who are the greatest gourmets in the world?

Signor Brusa, senior maitre d'hotel In the service of the Royal Mall Steam Packet Company, told a Daily Mail reporter recently that the wealthy Argentines and Brazi- lians whom he meets at sea are the greatest lovers of good food

that he knows.

He added:

.

The Argentines have practically no breakfast just a cup of coffee and a roll or perhaps only a little

fruit.

Their biggest meal of the day is luncheon and they eat more then at one sitting than anybody else in the world.

They demand at all times their `national dish--their beloved

puchero. This is composed of chicken, beef, and ham bolled with Lisbon peas, carrots, turnips, onions, and, in fact, every veget- ablo available. They eat this everyday-enortasua quantities ofte

The Brazilians for whom we have to cater at sea also deinand their national dish. "This is fejeonda; which is pork stuffed with sausage and boiled with black beans for 48 hours.

Apart from this, they cata great deal of mutton and lamb when aboard ship, for they are able to get very little of these when they are at home.

But while they will never go. without their national. dishes, both the Argentines and the Brazilians are always delighted to include in their menus some typically Eng- lish dishes-steak and kidney pud- ding, for instance, or roast beef and Yorkshire pudding.
