Utility and Economy.
The British Cycle and Motar Cycle Manufacturers' nnd Traders'
Union, Ltd., have recently publish- ed a very attractivo brochure de signed to bring to the notice of the public and particularly retail tradesmen-the utility and economy of the motor cycle and sidecar for delivery of goods and utility for general transport pur- brochure demons- poses. The trates how there are many varying sidecars types of commercial which can carry loads
up to 5 cyts., for a cost of less than 1d. per mile.
A large variety of commercial sidecars for various trades and for the personal transport of commer- cial travellers and their samples are manufactured.
A most important feature is the aid which a motor cycle combina tien can give to Gas, Water and other public Undertakings, and to Local Authorities and Police and Fire Brigades.

First, burning rubber. That means generally too frequent use of the brakes, especially when tra- velling down a long hill, or forget- fulness in releasing the handbrake at the start.
Somewhat similar is the odour of frying grease which betrays a leak- ing universal joint housing gener ally, by grease spattered on the hot muller or exhaust pipe.

great advantages especially in manufacturing works covering a large area. where mcbility in fire fighting equipment is necessary to deal with the small outbreaks-often the precursor to disastrous conflagrations. So, too, the motor cycle fire engine is almost an imperative requirement in hamlets chiefly composed of wooden buildings which may be separated by long road distances from the larger towns...
This has been found to be the case in Northern Europe, where wooden buildings predominate and much valuable property can thus
be saved.

The autumn motor show at Olym- pia will be held in less than two months time, so that manufac turers have their plans for the new season almost complete.
But they naturally do not wish to give their programmes away to rivals until the last possible mo- ment-hence subdued whispers in the factories and a general air of secrecy..
Without divulging trade secrets it is possible to give an accurate forecast of what motorists may look for in the motor show of 1927.
The question that intrigues most people at this time of the year is the possibility of lower prices. Here there will probably he a cer- tain amount of disappointment. I understand that there will be little change in the prices of existing
modele.
Cute of a few pounds or soon the less expensive types of cur may be possible, but the heavy cuts ex- perienced during preceding years are not at all likely.
On the other hand, prices will be more stablished and new owners will not be faced with the danger of quick and heavy depreciation.
I mentioned last week two firms. who have already announced their prices for the whole of 1927, and to this list must be added the Sun- beam Company.

This fixing prices ahead is quite new thing in the motor in- dustry, and it is aimed directly at the depreciation bogey which has had in the past such an unsteadying influence on the motor trade:
Quite a number of important Arms, I understand, will fix their prices for a year ahead during the motor show period.
The number of new models this year, while including the new 9 h.p. family ears, will be rather limited, which is another move towards the stablishing of the motor industry. Constant changing of models is inclined to irritate owners, and it also suggests lack of faith by the manufacturer in his production. Makers are now more inclined to on improving spend their funds their existing models, only produc- ing new cars to meet new markets. There is wisdom in this policy. to-day are The best motor-cars those that have proved their worth after three years or more on the road.
