The "Hongkong Telegraph" offers a prize of $50 to the readers who send in twelve correct forecasts of the results of the English and Scottish Football League matches (to be played on Saturday next, September 3rd.) set out in the Coupon below, No goal scores are required; only forecasts showing wins or draws.

In the event of no render forecasting all twelve matches, a prize of $25 will be given to the reader who sends in the greatest number. of correct forecasts; and in the event of two or more readers send- ing in an equal high mumber, the prize of $25 will be divided,

Rules of Competition.

1. All forecasts must be contained on coupone cut from the "Hohgkong Telegraph," the name of address of the entrant to be plainly printed in block letters in ink.

2. All envelopes must be addressed to the "Hongkong Telegraph,”. 1/3, and marked Strret, Wyndham "Football Competition" on the front, with sender's name (without address) on the back.

3. Any number of attempts may be sunt in, but a separate coupon must

be used for each attempt.

TWO NEW RECORDS.

Two new records were put up at Shanghai on Saturday last when the awimming championships were decided at the French Club. One of the new records was made by J. R. Johnstone, Hongkong's previous champion.

Tordy's win in the 50 yards Shanghai championship was, says the N. C. Daily News, a very popular one, in view of the ill-luck that had attended him on previous occasions in this event, and the more so in view of his lowering his own record, the new figure being:

In the 220 yards 26 2/5 secs. championship of Shanghai J, R. Johnstone also set up a new record, namely 2 min. 422/5 secs. In the 100 yards championship of the star Club, Concoff, who was the performer of the whole gain, win- ning several of the club eventa as well as the long plunge champion- ship of Shanghai. also created a fresh record, his time of 68 2/5 sec. being considerably lower than that of the previous holder Brydone- Jack, namely, 75 sec.

SWIMMING SIMPLIFIED.

CORRECT BODY BALANCE IMPORTANT IN CRAWL STROKE SWIMMING.

To perfect the arm and leg action of the crawl, correct body balance is very necessary. Get the needed poise by learning to use the head and shoulders correctly.

The body should be flat, the head straight and the shoulders square during one-half of the stroke. Throughout the recovery of the under arm,, the body should be a trifle on its side, the head twisted, the shoulders at a slight angle during the other half, throughout the. recovery of the top arm. At first, try to make the roll definite, raising the mouth When skill is gained, well above the surface to inhale. decrcase it gradually until it is no greater than it is necessary to permit breathing.

Work arms independently of shoulders. Start drive of under arm before turning the head to inhale; start the drivo of the top arm before turning back the head or rolling down.
