This legislation, to remain in fore, requires a two-thirds ma- jority of the Reichstag, and as the Nationalists are for the princes and against the taxpayers, it la probable that the extension will be defeated.
In this event several of the " German States will be faced with demands for sums, not merely enormous in themselves, but based on "rights" of the most grotesque character. Here is one example,

The origin of this privy purae U. S, A., Canada, Japan and Shang- was nothing less-or more-than the so-called "blood money" which England paid to the house of Hesse for the hire of mercenaries to serve against America in the War of Independence.
Far more grotesque, however, are several claims based on mediaeval privileges; that is to say, going back to the days of
serfdom
1.
For instance, any girl wishing to marry a man who was not one of her overlord's "subjects" had to pay for the privilege.
Another "righ" "on which Telaims are based is that under which the "aubjects" of the lords of the manors had to contribute in kind to the marriage dowries of the latter's sons and daughters, the compulsory gift usually taking the form of poultry or grain.
This custom was contained until as late as 1808, when the "gifts" | were commuted into a yearly al come paid by the principality.

AIRSHIP TO CARRY AEROPLANES.
'WORLD'S BIGGEST, WITH
12,500 MILE RANGE.
Plans for the largest and most powerful airship in the world have been approved for the Ameri- can Navy.
r. Wilbur, Secretary of the Navy, accepted (as briefly re- ported in yesterday's Daily Chroși- cle) the report awarding first prize in the U.S. Navy compati- tion to the Goodyear Rubber Co. for a design for a dirigible of 6,500,000 cubic feet.
The new airship will be capable
of carrying five neroplanes, which, will be placed inside the envelope. of the dirigible. It is planned to launch these deroplanes from the airship while in the air.
Inclined plane runways of special design are to be placed in side the airship from which the aeroplanes can be launched. The aeroplanes can also be taken aboard again after finishing their lights.
