TROOPS IN BUCHAREST OCCUPY PUBLIC BUILDINGS.

REGENCY COUNCIL FORMED.

The demise of King Ferdinand of Rumanin has occurred, after a prolonged illness and several reports during the past two months that he was on the point of death.

Quiet prevails at Bucharest, where troops have occupied all the public buildings, meetings have been prohibited, and a press censorship has been established. All places of amusenient have closed.

A Regency Council has been formed, consisting of the late King's second son, the Patriarch, and the President of the Court of Appeal. The late King's grandson, Prince Michael, has been proclaimed King, and his father Prince Carol has been informed that his renunciation of the throne is to stand. The army is taking the oath of allegiance to the new King, Michael the First.

Late King's Career.

The late King Ferdinand of Rumania was born on August 24, 1865, and has thus passed away in his 62nd year. Succeeding his onele, King Charles, on October 10, 1914, he took up the destinies of his country at a most critical time of European history, and his demise is likely to raise problems of nearly equal magnitude.

He married Princess Mario of Edinburgh, a daughter of the late Duke of Saxe-Coburg Gothn (who wis a son of Queen Victoria) in 1893, and they had five children. The eldest is Prince' Carol, now aged 83, whose abdiention of the Throne, following a love affair outside the Royal circle, is the main cause of the present crisis in the Rumanian dynasty.
